Q 2: Are there different types of loft conversions?

Q 4: How quickly can you start?

A: Once the relevant building permissions have been obtained, East London Lofts endeavours to start work within one month.

Q 5: How long does a loft conversion take?

A: Every project is different, but an average loft conversion takes between four and six weeks from start to finish.

Q 6: Will the process be affected by the weather?

A: Loft conversions can be carried out regardless of the season – indeed, we do as many loft conversions in winter as we do summer. We take every safety precaution to keep watertight during the building development, so interruptions due to weather are highly unlikely.

Q 7: Are there any additional or hidden costs?

A: The total price of your quotation includes everything necessary to complete the project – there are no hidden extras. Unlike some of our competitors, East London Lofts doesn’t require a covering charge. We provide everything necessary for all stages of your project from start to finish, including the design proposal, the materials, labour, plumbing and electrics, wall painting, floor finish, etc. All work is carried out to the appropriate building standards and regulations, and all required certificates are obtained. All these items and services are fully described in your quotation.

Q 8: Does East London Lofts provide architectural services?

Q 9: I already have my own architect. Will you be able to work with him/her?

Q 10: How is payment made?

A: Our flexible payment terms require payment only as each stage is completed. The last payment is due after the final inspection by Building Control.

Q 11: Can I reduce the price of the project by doing some of the work myself?

A: Doing some work on your own loft conversion is fine, as long as you are confident and know what you are doing. If you are not absolutely sure of your capabilities, however, please consider the consequences before doing so.

Q 12: Can you guarantee the quality of your work?

A: East London Lofts, a Trust Market member of the Federation of Master Builders, offers a 10-year construction guarantee on all loft conversion projects.

Q 13: Who supervises the quality of the work?

A: Each of our East London Lofts teams is closely supervised by a dedicated project manager/site foreman who oversees the project from start to finish. The project manager works closely with our customers to develop a strong working relationship and provide peace of mind, and is always available to address any questions or concerns. Your Local Authority surveyor also will make regular site visits.

Q 14: How much disruption does a loft conversion cause?

A: While at work on your loft conversion, East London Lofts guarantees minimal disruption to your household. Our teams arrange their working hours to suit you, and wherever possible we bring all building materials and equipment directly into the loft by crane and scaffolding rather than through your house. Where traffic through your house is unavoidable, we lay down thorough flooring and protective coverings to ensure that there is no damage and that your house is kept clean.

Q 15: Can I see some of your past work?

Q 16: Can your builders do extra work while they are on the premises?

A: Yes. Depending on the type of work, we are usually able to carry out additional building work (to be agreed on-site). If extra work not stated within a quotation is requested by the customer, it will be charged at an agreed rate and confirmed in writing by East London Lofts in the form of an ‘Additional Works’ agreement.
